CCG Open Day Showcases Exciting Pathways in Salon and Music

Community College Gippsland (CCG) recently welcomed prospective students to its Leongatha campus for an Open Day showcasing its Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students (VDSS) Certificate II Salon and Certificate II Music programs.

The event provided students with the opportunity to step inside the CCG learning environment, meet trainers and current students, explore the facilities and, most importantly, experience first-hand what studying a VDSS course can offer.

In the Certificate II Salon program, students were able to get hands-on with the practical side of the course, trying their skills at braiding and styling hair on mannequins. They also had the opportunity to explore different hair colours and techniques while meeting Haley, the trainer who will be delivering the course next year.

The Salon program offers students the chance to develop practical skills in a supportive environment while gaining an insight into the hair and beauty industry and the career opportunities available to them.

Across the campus in the Certificate II Music program, prospective students were treated to a live performance from current CCG music students. The performance featured original music created by the class and was supported by Dean, the trainer who will be working with students next year.

After watching the performance, it was time for the visitors to take the stage themselves. Students had the opportunity to demonstrate their own vocal abilities, performing alongside recorded tracks as well as with current CCG students and staff.

The enthusiastic participation highlighted the practical and inclusive nature of the Music program, giving prospective students the chance to experience what it is like to learn, perform and create music as part of a class.

For many students, choosing a VDSS course is an important step towards their future study and career pathway. Events such as the CCG Open Day give young people the opportunity to move beyond simply reading about a course and experience it for themselves.

With strong interest from students and local schools, Community College Gippsland looks forward to continuing to provide young people with opportunities to explore their interests, develop practical skills and take their first steps towards exciting future careers.
